Our flight is smooth and short.  Our guide here is Hobbie.  We arrive with enough time to get coffee at Starbucks.  A nice change from tea.

Then we head to the Chen Family Temple also known as the Chen Clan Academy.  Built during the 14th to 20th years of Guangxi Reign of the Qing Dynasty (1888-1894).  Served as the hall for ancestor worship as  well as a temporary residence for the Chen descendants when they came to the provincial capital for official discussion, imperial examination or litigation.  This is a complex of 19 buildings in a square form.  The Chen Clan Academy is the largest, best preserved and most gorgeously decorated traditional building in Guangdong Province.  All of the architectural decorations in the academy, the wood carvings, stone carvings, ceramic sculptures, lime sculptures, iron castings, and paintings are of varied topics and superior workmanship.  This is an expression of the exquisite folk art and handicrafts of the local province.

Next we visit Dr. Sun Yet-sen's Memorial Hall.  Dr. Sun Yet-sen was the great forerunner of Cinese revolution.  It was built by the local people of Guangzhou started in 1929 and completed in 1931.  A combination of Chinese and Western architectural arts.  The structure is shaped in an octagon made of steel frame mixed with reinforced concrete framework.  The roof is covered with sapphire blue glazed tiles.

We will be staying at the Salisbury Hotel/YMCA which is located in the Kowloon Peninsula in the Tsimshatsui district.  Convenient to businesses, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment.  I have upgraded our standard room to a harbor view room.  We have a direct view of Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong Island.  We can also watch the nightly show-Symphony of Lights.  Starts at 8:00 pm.  This combines interactive lights of 33 key buildings on both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon with musical effects.  Richard and I have invited the others in our group to watch the show from our hotel room.  The room's intercom provides the commentary and the sound of the music.  It was super cool!

Our hotel is marked by the triangle here, located next to the ultra posh Peninsula Hotel

Other than a half day tour tomorrow we are on our own for the 3 nights here.  For dinner Frank asks to join us and we walk over to where we spot a Pizza Hut!!  This restaurant has a similar menu to the Pizza Huts back home but with the addition of some Chinese items.  We split a thin and crispy cheese pepperoni pizza.  It was delicious and hot the spot after all the Chinese food we've been eating.  Then we wander down busy Nathan Road before heading back to our hotel.
