Lulu is with us as we drive to board the Maglev, the fast magnetic levitation train that will take us to the Shanghai/Pudong International Airport. It will reach speed of almost 300 mph.
At the airport we are told our baggage is over the limit allowed. Staff have us buy this inexpensive large plastic type bag. I was concerned if it would hold up but amazingly it did throughout all the flights home to Buffalo! Our Air China flight departs Shanghai at 12:00 pm. The flight arrives San Francisco at 12:40 pm. I think we crossed the international date line and gained a lot of hours because of course it took more than 40 minutes to fly from Shanghai to San Francisco.
We have a long layover in San Francisco-around 10 hours. We decide to rent a car and do a bit of sightseeing. We drive to Coit Tower. We are fortunate that the day is so clear. We can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz. Then we go over to Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 where we see lots of the famous sea lions there. Dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant.
Back to the airport, return the rental car. Our United Airlines flight departs San Francisco at 1:15 am and arrives Chicago on 9/25/2007 at 5:07 am. We depart Chicago 6:30 am and arrive Buffalo at 9:00 am. Home!!!!!!!!!!! Picked up by our brother-in-law Dan.
